These are a few of my (new) favourite things.

Just a few random bits and pieces I've been loving of late.

How good is Vogue? Just when you thought it couldn't get any better they start a new online feature that sees each month's cover girl keep a style diary. First up was Alexa Chung (one of my personal faves) who posted a photo of her outfit accompanied by a short explanation each day throughout the month. This month sees top model and all around goddess, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley show us her sartorial skills. Vogue always gets it right.

I've never really been one to have problem skin but lately my face has been really dry and blotchy, not ideal. For Christmas I was given a body lotion version of my perfume of choice, Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, so after exhausting a multitude of other quick-fixes I decided to give it a go. I slather my face in it every night right before I go to sleep and I absolutely swear by it, my skin has never been so smooth and blemish-free. And my face smells like Chanel. :)

I'm a huge fan of the ITV2 show, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, so when I was walking past my local Waterstones recently and saw this in the window I felt like I should read what the real Belle had to say for herself. Mirroring the Truman Capote classic, Breakfast at Tiffany's, the screen version paints a much more glamourous picture than the book. The book gets into the really gritty stuff and doesn't gimmick it up or try to make her work seem humourous and fun. It also focuses a lot more on her own personal lovelife. If you like an author who can talk graphically about sex and her relationship with her mother on the same page then this is the book for you. Easy to read, but admittedly not exactly high brow.

Mad Men is my latest television obsession (again). Yes the story lines can be a tad dull, but you are never starved for something to look at. The styling is impeccable. The early 60s is just so impossibly glamourous, all the women make so much effort just to sit around in their suburban houses all day, I can't get enough. I'm fully in love with Betty Draper(January Jones)'s wardrobe and styling, it's amazing. Also, how unreal is the name January Jones? Haha.

Yes I know it's old news but how hot is this video with Beyonce AND Lady Gaga?! Love it! Love the hot outfits and makeup, love Beyonce with a fringe. It's all just so wonderfully sexy.

I also can't get enough of Marina and the Diamonds lately; love her songs, love her style. Her latest single, Hollywood does not disappoint, especially when it comes to this fantastic video! Love the cute line about being mistaken for Catherine Zeta too, I can definitely see that.

I was so inspired that I gave myself a similar stars and stripes manicure. (I'm becoming increasingly obsessed with nail art. There's just so much you can do with it, and it just really completes a look and makes it seem like you've made so much more effort.)

Also check out this girl so you can tell all your friends you liked her before it was cool: http://www.myspace.com/sparkthemusic http://www.twitter.com/sparkthemusic She's not even graduated from the Brit school yet and already big things are happening. Watch this space.

Right now I'm looking forward to seeing all the red carpet fashion at the Oscars this coming Sunday, be sure to check back for a best (and worst) dressed list as well as a rundown of the winners! More soon.

Alexa Chung for Madewell.

Exciting news! Alexa Chung has made her first foray into the world of design with a collection for affordable American-based brand, Madewell (a subsidiary of J.Crew). Much like Kate Moss' eponymous Topshop collection; the looks are based largely on her own coveted style. The line debuted in a presentation during New York Fashion Week. There's a reason Alexa picked up the Editor's Choice Award at the recent Elle Style Awards, the girl knows what she's doing - I want it all!

Doing high-waisted shorts in velvet is a nice touch, it adds a bit of texture, another dimension to an otherwise simple outfit. The thin brown braided belt is gorgeous too - I love mixing black and brown. And I'm always a fan of a masculine button up shirt. The coat is a beautiful shade of grey with black detailing, love the length too. She gets it all just right.

Again, I love the button up shirt, keeping it all very simple and classic in lovely neutral colours. Still not sure where I stand on dungarees but I love the socks-and-sandals look, a patented Alexa classic.

I just changed my mind, these dungarees are heavenly, a very flattering cut - love everything about the left look, the colours, everything. Especially enjoying the high neck and bare legs combination, she manages to make geek chic sexy, no mean feat. The right look is pretty but not necessarily something I'd wear, that hat is definitely not for me.

Really like the socks-and-sandals in black as well, and the masculine boots.

The cut of the jeans on the left is ridiculously perfect; slightly high-waisted and impossibly skinny. The blazer is spot on and the little laceup ankleboot heels are a nice touch too.
If I had choose I'd say this look on the left is probably my favourite in terms of head-to-toe wearability, it's really something that could take you from day to night comfortably. Ever since watching Coco Before Chanel I've been lusting after anything with breton stripes, this is a lovely take on that. The blue velvet shorts and the brown belt combination is gorgeous. And again there's the socks-and-sandals vibe I've been addicted to since Burberry's Spring/Summer 2010 show. The dress is cute too, quite 60s, very simple, very easy to wear.

I would quite like this scarf come Autumn/Winter 2010, love the subdued shades.

Both these looks are gorgeous too, love the choice of colour palette. I love the way the jumper on the right has such a high neck but then it comes up slightly short to expose the bottom of the shirt and it's sleeves, perfection. Not 100% sold on socks-with-clogs though. The coat/jacket on the left is adorable.

The dress on the right is too cute for words, gorgeous yet understated detailing with the ever-so-slight frilled edges, love it.
It's a good thing this line is so affordable; with only 16 stores all based in the USA, the money I save is going to have to go on air fare just to get to a Madewell store. More soon.

Don't Mess With Naomi Campbell.

Crazy Naomi Campbell is at it again!

Naomi Campbell is wanted by the New York Police Department after allegedly slapping and punching her driver in Manhattan today and fleeing the scene. According to the driver; Naomi became angry with him as he drove her around Midtown Manhattan at which point she began to slap and punch him from the backseat of the Cadillac Escalade. When he stopped to call 911, Naomi got out of the car and ran off. Police are currently looking for Miss Campbell. As yet there has been no statement from her spokesman.

This is just another violent outburst in a string of unfortunate incidents from the notorious supermodel. In 2000, she was convicted of assaulting her assistant with a mobile phone and threatening to throw her out of a moving car. Since then several other assistants have come forward with similar cases - most famously in March 2006 she struck an assistant with a jewel-encrusted mobile phone, the assistant later required several stitches. In April 2008 Campbell was also convicted of assaulting a police officer and threatening British Airways cabin crew at Heathrow Airport following cabin crew allegedly losing her bag and directing racial slurs at her.

She's widely acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful women in the world, with a billionaire boyfriend to boot, what can she possibly have to be so angry about?

I'll bring you more updates as I get them.

NYFW Autumn/Winter 2010. Suits.

A trend that was rife on the New York catwalks this season was the suit. Everyone had a new take on it, and noone more so than Alexander Wang whose collection was primarily made up of sexily deconstructed pinstriped numbers. His collection felt like a throwback to the 90s, maybe it was something to do with all the pinstripes and the grunge hair.

All the big girls walked for him (Natalia Vodianova, Freja Beha Erichsen, Natasha Poly, Karlie Kloss, Sasha Pivovorova, Agyness Deyn, Magdelena Frackowiak, Anja Rubik, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Anna Selezneva, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Iselin Steiro etc - trust me you'd recognise every last one of them) which made for an amazing show as always; he really is the It-designer everyone wants to walk for. Natalia Vodianova's appearance on Jonathan Ross last week proved that it pays off to walk for Wang as she appeared wearing the boots she wore in the show, presumably a gift from the designer, which don't hit shops until at least 6 months from now! Jealous.

I was a little bit disappointed in this collection, Alexander Wang is one of my absolute favourite contemporary designers and I always expect something cool and edgy from him. There is no doubt that he did breathe new life into the suit, arguably managing to make it fresh and sexy - and I understand that this is one of the key trends to look to next season - but honestly I would never wear a suit so a collection compromised almost wholly of suits seems a little uninteresting. However, I do love his very minimal use of colour which has been somewhat of a theme throughout his career - the colours he does go for are unusual and intriguing (mustards and maroons), and only subtly hinted at.

(this is by far my favourite one from Alexander Wang)

Other fun suits that caught my eye were:

(All 3 looks are AMAZING! Arguably my favourite take on the suit, very sexy and edgy. Love the skinny leather ties, the playfulness of the sheer fabric, skyscraper ankleboots, a tiny belted waist, thigh high hemlines juxtaposed with high necklines, sheer hold ups - perfect.)

Charlotte Ronson
Diane von Furstenburg

(love this beige belted look)
Donna Karan New York

While others opted for a more classic approach:
(love love love this look, very Chanel-inspired)
Monique Lhullier

Michael Kors
Tommy Hilfiger

Ralph Lauren

Marc Jacobs

Yigal Azrouel

Suits promise to be a big trend for Autumn/Winter 2010 so be sure to take note. Following on from New York, plenty have already been seen in London and I bet there are many more to come in Paris - Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel alone are incredibly famous for them so I'm really excited to see what the French capital has to offer.

NYFW Autumn/Winter 2010. Eveningwear.

I'm not normally one for eveningwear as I have little occasion to wear it and I prefer a more casual look but there were some beautiful dresses on the New York catwalks that I just had to mention. If I had to wear a ballgown for some reason, I hope it would be one of these. Perhaps we will be seeing some of these beautiful creations on the red carpet soon.
